Australian Journal of Pharmacy : February 2005
PFIZER QUALITY CARE PHARMACY OF THE YEAR SUPPLEMENT FEBRUARY 2005 T is with great pleasure that we announce the names of the state and territory winners of the Pfizer 2005 Quality Care Pharmacy of the Year Award. Rewarding pharmacy excellence I Sponsored by Pfizer since its inception in 2000, the award recognises and rewards excellence within the Quality Care Pharmacy Program (QCPP). Congratulations to each of the winners, one of which will be named the national winner at the Australian Pharmacy Professional Conference gala dinner on the Gold Coast in March. As in past years, the challenge presented to the national judging panel to select an overall winner was tough and arduous, as all state/territory winners are exceptional pharmacies in their own right. Each state/territory winner receives a Pfizer Scholarship for one person for the Diploma of Retail Management offered by the Australian College of Pharmacy Practice and Management valued at $2,000, or $1,000 cash plus travel to and registration at APP for one person, plus a trophy and a framed certificate. In addition to the above prizes, the national winner receives $10,000 cash, a trophy and a framed certificate. It is encouraging to see that the great majority of pharmacy proprietors have recognised the strategic significance of the QCPP in our relations with governments, and other important industry stakeholders. As we approach the second round of re-accreditation, we are making good progress on the review of the Quality Care Program. The revised program, expected to be launched early next year, will be more logically presented and organised as we go through the process of eradicating any duplication, refining current standards and looking at other areas that should be included in the program, for example, an IT standard. The winner of the Quality Care Pharmacy of the Year is selected by a panel comprising the director of the QCPP, PSA national president, CEO of the Australian College of Pharmacy Practice and Management, and the pharmacy relations manager from Pfizer Consumer Healthcare. All entries were reviewed by the national judging panel using a ‘desk- top’ audit process. Each state or territory winner will be visited by the panel to determine the national winner. Pharmacies are judged according to the way in which QCPP features in the pharmacy’s approach to professional services, retail management, business management and human resource management. The winner is not necessarily the biggest and brightest pharmacy. It is the pharmacy judged to have embraced most comprehensively the philosophy of QCPP in the services provided by the pharmacy across the four main areas of judging. The Australian Journal of Pharmacy continues to be a strong supporter of the award by its coverage of the state and territory finalists and the ultimate winner. The QCPP thanks the AJP sincerely for this support, as it does Pfizer Consumer Healthcare which is the exclusive sponsor of the award. Without the support of the AJP and Pfizer, it is doubtful that the award could continue. Tim Logan Chairman Quality Care Pharmacy Program
